The best news of the day, and it has a California connection, is the pardon and release of Laura Ling and Euna Lee by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Former U.S. President Bill Clinton made an historic trip to North Korea to meet with Kim Jong-il on their behalf.
Ling and Lee are reporters for California-based Current TV, which is a media venture that was launched by Al Gore, Clinton’s former Vice-President. The two women were arrested in March while reporting from the China-North Korea border for California-based Current Media. In June, they were sentenced to 12 years in prison on charges of entering North Korea illegally to conduct a smear campaign.
