National AIDS Memorial Grove, Golden Gate Park
The National AIDS Memorial Grove in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, is dedicated to individuals who have died as the result of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), and is a living tribute to all whose lives have been touched by AIDS. The Grove is a 7-acre wooded dell that was known historically as de Laveaga Dell.
The Grove was designated a National Memorial in 1996, and is owned and administered by the City of San Francisco. The Grove is an affiliated area of the National Park Service.
The Main Portal of the grove is one of several gathering places in the Grove. Others include the South Portal, Dogwood Crescent, Fern Grotto, Meadow Overlook, Pine Crescent, and Redwood Circle. The locations are shown on a map at the beginning of a photo tour on the Web site for the Grove.
