California unemployment at 11.0% in April

The unemployment rate in California was 11.0% in April, down slightly from the 11.2% reported for March. In April of 2008, the unemployment rate was 6.6% in the state. The unemployment rate for the entire U.S. rose to 8.9% in April from 8.5% in March. The number of unemployed people in California decreased by 35,000 in April.

Imperial County led the California counties in unemployment, with 26.9% unemployment, and it was one of 16 counties with over 15% unemployment. Detailed statistics are in the EDD document.
