Kayaker attacked by Hammerhead Shark off Santa Barbara!

Stearns Wharf, Santa Barbara, California

A particularly aggressive Hammerhead Shark repeatedly attacked a kayaker off Gaviota State Beach (1) near Santa Barbara last weekend!

Mark McCracken shared the video on his Instagram account. He was out looking for bonito fish when the shark started ramming and biting his kayak.

” I had to hit him over 20 times before he finally gave me some space but still stalked me for a half mile all the way back to shore,” McCracken wrote. “Even after I was on shore, [the shark] paced back and forth in about 3 feet of water like he was just waiting for me to come back out. Pretty bizarre and crazy experience to say the least.”

McCracken’s episode with the shark was only one of SEVERAL recent Hammerhead Shark encounters off Southern California.

Be careful out there.
