Jerusalem Fire: a NEW wildfire in Lake County, California!
With the Rocky Fire (69,636 acres; over twice the size of the City of San Francisco) only 85% contained, a NEW fire, the Jerusalem Fire, has begun to consume Lake County, California!
The Jerusalem Fire started yesterday afternoon and has already grown to over 5,000 acres. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered in the area of Jerusalem Grade Road. The fire is located just south of the Rocky Fire in Lake County. From ABC News (the article has photos and maps):
Officials say the Jerusalem Fire is burning about seven miles southwest of the Rocky Fire, which has burned nearly 70,000 acres since it started on July 29. Capt. Joe Fletcher says the two could merge.
The Lake County Office of Emergency Services says an evacuation center for both wildfires is available at Middletown High School at 20932 Big Canyon Road, and a temporary shelter for pets and animals has opened at 6885 Old Highway 53 in Clearlake.
CalFire has this to say about mandatory evacuations for the Jerusalem Fire:
A Mandatory Evacuation is issued for the Jerusalem Valley area east of Spruce Grove. Jerusalem Valley Road is closed to all traffic at Spruce Grove Road. Fire personnel and emergency vehicles will be working in the area.
Five air tankers and three helicopters are now engaged in fighting the Jerusalem Fire. Some firefighting staff have been diverted from the nearby Rocky Fire to fight the new blaze.
