Pescadero Marsh Natural Preserve

Bridge between Pescadero State Beach and Pescadero Marsh

On January 5, my wife and I paid our first visit to Pescadero Marsh Natural Preserve. We have driven past it countless times, and have stopped at Pescadero State Beach (1) for years! Bay Area Hiker describes the hike here! The fresh water comes from Pescadero Creek, and the marsh is a haven for birds of many kinds, including blue heron! A “checklist” of species found in the marsh is here! A bridge into the marsh is above. On the narrow stretch of land between the marsh and the beach is California’s Highway 1!

The only caveat – paths are not clearly marked, and some paths cross sand dunes (translation: there is some “slogging” through sand –  a lot of work for elderly folks or the disabled).

For us, the visit to Pescadero Marsh Natural Preserve was a time to watch Nature at her tranquil best. If you would like a quiet sojourn with Nature, then maybe Pescadero Marsh is for you!
