Storm in the Sierra drops a foot of snow; 103-mph wind gust recorded

Fannette Island, Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe

An early-Monday winter storm dropped a foot of snow in upper elevations in the Sierra, and a 103-mph wind gust blew across the mountains near Lake Tahoe! Four to seven inches of snow fell on Lake Tahoe’s western shore, and 13 inches fell above 6.300 feet near Donner Pass on Interstate 80.

Kirkwood ski resort reported 14 inches of snow, and Squaw Valley, 10 inches. Carson City had 1.5 inches of snow, and Spanish Springs reported half-inch-diameter HAIL!

The 103-miles/hour wind gust was recorded near the Mount Rose ski resort.
