California girls (allegedly) drug parents for more Internet time!

I sometimes remind students that human brains do not mature until age 25. :-)

Some NEVER do! 😉

As described by CNET News and The Sacramento Bee, two teenaged girls in Placer County, California were arrested for allegedly using drugged milkshakes to knock out the parents of one of the girls, who routinely shut off Internet access at 10 p.m., according to Lieutenant Lon Milka, a Rocklin police department spokesman. A 15-year-old girl, who had a 16-year-old friend from Roseville visiting, offered to pick up milkshakes from a fast-food restaurant for her parents. The parents drank about a quarter of the milkshakes, but did not finish them because they were “grainy” and tasted funny, and then fell asleep, because the shakes were loaded with prescription sleep aids provided by the friend!

The parents awoke at 1 a.m. with hangover symptoms but went back to sleep and woke up the next morning with grogginess and headaches. Then, they went to the Rocklin police department to pick up $5 drug test kits that many parents use to test their kids’ urine for drugs.

These parents bought the kits to test THEMSELVES! :-)

When the parents tested positive, they informed the police, and the girls were taken to juvenile hall. According to The Sacramento Bee:

“The girls wanted to use the Internet, and they’d go to whatever means they had to,” Milka said.

What the girls did on the Internet that night is not yet clear, Milka said.

“For our investigation, that wasn’t as important as the drugging with the milkshake,” Milka said.

It’s also unclear whether someone manually shut off wireless Internet access each night at 10 p.m. or it happened automatically.

The 15-year-old told police that her parents’ Internet policy was “too strict,” Milka said.

The teens were arrested on charges of conspiracy and willfully mingling a pharmaceutical with food.

“If they were adults, they could be facing prison time,” Milka said.

The two girls were arrested as juveniles, and it will be up to the District Attorney’s Office to determine whether the crime justifies adult punishment. Since the girls are juveniles, their names were not released to the media.
