The softer side of Bikers….

About 25 riders from the Ghost Mountain Riders Motorcycle Club’s Lompico chapter, in black leather jackets and jeans, held a party at the Portuguese Hall on Evergreen Street to collect food in support of Valley Churches United Missions – the second year that the motorcycle club has held the food drive. The bikers collected almost 700 pounds of canned foods and other nonperishables for families in need this holiday season.

“We care about the valley and Valley Churches,” club member Lyle Fleming said. “We believe we need to feed our people in the Santa Cruz Mountains.”

The donated food was given to the longtime San Lorenzo Valley nonprofit, which assists families in the Santa Cruz Mountain communities throughout the year with a special emphasis on Christmas.

The food along with grocery store gift cards and toys for children will be distributed to 500 families on Sunday at Valley Churches United Missions in Ben Lomond. It’s the organization’s 31st annual Christmas Project.

Annette Marcum, founder of Valley Churches United Missions, said:

“These guys worked their hearts out today.” “When you see people we help get back on their feet, that’s a wonderful thing.”
