Lake Tahoe: 42-inch, 28-pound-9-ounce Mackinaw trout caught!

SFGate.com has a photo of Eric St. Denis holding the 42-inch-long, 28-pound-9-ounce Mackinaw trout (lake trout; Salvelinus namaycush) that he caught in Lake Tahoe this week, just north of casino row at Stateline! Eric and his dad, Geme St. Denis, launched their boat from Cave Rock on the southeast shore of Lake Tahoe. According to SFGate.com:

They were trolling off the Cave Rock Shelf in 30 feet of water, said dad Gene, and Eric had rigged a 10-inch Monster Trophy Stick colored in a brown trout pattern. He said he covered the lure with ProCure Trophy Trout Gel.

After a prodigious fight, with Eric at the rod the entire way, dad Gene netted it at the side of the boat.

“It was an amazing moment,” Gene said.

Captain Gene St. Denis runs Blue Ribbon Fishing Charters, (530) 544-6552 and information about his fishing charters include additional photos of catches.
