Two strongest U.S. job markets are in the SF Bay Area!
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the strongest employment market in the United States is the San Francisco-San Mateo-Marin region, which led to a 4.4% increase in total payroll jobs during the 12 months that ended in July. The South Bay was the second-strongest job market in the United States, which posted a 3.5% increase in total jobs over the one-year period.
The third-strongest job market in the county is the Houston- Sugarland region in Texas, which is up 3.2%.
The East Bay, which does not have a strong employment base in technology, posted a one-year gain of 1.2% in total payroll jobs.
My unscientific observation is that the technology sector leads the overall economy into recessions, and that it leads the overall economy OUT of recessions, as well. My experience in the technology sector is that employees should be aware of widespread age discrimination in the sector, and that employees should not expect to be able to retire from high-tech jobs.
Have a “Plan B” ready, and don’t delude yourself that you will be the exception!
