Ponderosa fire is finally fully contained!

The Ponderosa fire, which once threatened 3,000 homes near the Shasta County border with Tehama County in Northern California and forced the evacuation of thousands of people, was FINALLY contained today! Firefighting crews surrounded the 27,676-acre Ponderosa wildfire with a fire line today, 10 days after the fire was started by lightning about 30 miles east of Redding.

The wildfire destroyed 52 homes and 90 outbuildings and forced whole towns to evacuate, including Manton and Shingletown. Over 1,800 firefighters will stay in the area to mop up the fire, according to Daniel Berlant, a Cal Fire spokesman.

There are seven other lightning-ignited wildfires burning in other parts of the state, including two North Pass fires that have combined to burn 35,270-acres in Mendocino County. The fire has destroyed 4 homes and 7 outbuildings and threatens 74 homes. The fire is, for the most part, burning in a section of the Mendocino National Forest.
