The California Economic <sic? Employment> Development Department (EDD) announced today that it is adding $25/week to unemployment checks, effective immediately. Almost 1 million Californians depend upon the unemployment checks. The EDD spokesperson, Patti Roberts, said that the number of people who are applying for unemployment is unprecedented.
At One Stop Career Centers, people are becoming more desperate and less selective.
As for the Bay Area, over 62,000 jobs were lost in January 2009 alone. Silicon Valley unemployment jumped from 7.8% to 9.3%. Unemployment also climbed in the East Bay, Peninsula, Marin, and San Francisco.
Meanwhile, a lot of incompetent people are probably keeping their jobs; they always do! 
Usually they are the ones laying people off. I strongly suspect that, in the current economy, even some of the incompetent people (probably the ones who are not getting bailed out by taxpayers) will likely lose their jobs. It’s that bad.
i just had a morbid thought that it might pass the time to start a “Dead Pool” kind of game with lists of incompetent people who might get laid off! (Only imcompetent people can be on the list – competent people ALWAYS get laid off! ) The winner, after a given amount of time, would be the person with the most incompetents on the list who had actually gotten laid off by the deadline! One of the things that I want to watch closely are the statistics on violent crime. People will do many things before they allow themselves or their loved ones to come to harm.
