Summer thunderstorm causes flash flooding in Victorville, in CA High Desert

The High Desert community of Victorville (population 116,000; Google Map) in San Bernardino County experienced flooding today and street closure on Pebble Beach Drive and Hughes Road, but the waters were not high enough to close Seneca Road. As of 6:15 PM this evening, however, there were no signs of property damage.

Nearly an inch of rain fell very quickly on Victorville this afternoon. Moisture coming in from Mexico is colliding with unstable air in the High Desert and is creating a lot of thunderstorms over the mountains, High Desert, and places like Victorville. Interstate 15, which is the main route that links Southern California and Las Vegas could become impassible in low spots like Apple Valley, Wrightwood, and Hesperia. In Forest Falls, a man was rescued after being trapped by mud running down a hillside.

Stephen Harrison, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said that MORE thunderstorms could occur on Saturday, from late morning into the evening.
