Artillery shell forces evacuation in San Francisco!

Surprise, surprise, surprise!

You never know WHAT you might find in San Francisco! :-)

THIS time, it was an old artillery shell that construction workers dug up at 10:46 AM near the intersection of Indiana and Mariposa streets, a few blocks from AT&T Park. Workers transported the shell to the 200 block of Channel Street.

Police blocked traffic at the 200 block of Channel Street, said spokesman Officer Carlos Manfredi. In addition to the two nearby buildings, residents living along the waterfront in houseboats were also evacuated.

After the bomb squad had assessed the shell, they called in technicians from Travis Air Force Base to look at it. The Travis Air Force Base technicians determined that the device was inert according to Manfredi, and they took the shell with them. Tthe scene was cleared as of 3:24 PM.

The San Francisco Giants played the Dodgers at 7:15 PM in AT&T Park.
