“The Essential Nude 2012” – Figurative fine art at the Bothwell!
Last evening, I attended the reception and awards ceremony for “The Essential Nude” art show at the Bothwell Art Center in Livermore, California, on 8th Street (Google Map). The Livermore Art Association show, in its FOURTH year, is free, and the public is invited. As usual, Barbara Stanton, the show’s chair, did an outstanding job! I had very little to do except sign the certificates and checks for the award-winning artists, and appreciate the very high quality of the work “juried in” to the show! The show remains open Saturday and Sunday, from 11 AM until 4 PM. The Facebook page for the show is here.
The Essential Nude features a celebration of the human form and includes nude, semi-nude, clothed figures, and portraiture in a wide range of media. This year’s judge is Bill Sala, “… one of the pre-eminent surrealist artists working in America today, and perhaps the world. Bill’s unique approach to his graphic use of color and thematic style is unparalleled by other contemporary surrealist artists.”
A popular part of the show is “The People’s Choice Award” – chosen by the votes of folks who visit the show and announced at the end of the show. I won’t spoil too many surprises for you by revealing the award winners chosen by Bill Sala, other than the “Best of Show,” which is “Restoration,” featuring a fully-“clothed” figure painted by Engela Olivier-Wilson, a gifted Livermore painter and muralist.
I hope that many of you Bay Area folks are able to attend the show on Saturday and Sunday, before it ends Sunday at 4 PM.
