STILL having Flashbacks? :-)

‘Fess up, you Baby Boomers! :-)

Back on April 4, I wrote a blog entry entitled, “Having Flashbacks?” about the Flashback malware, one of the largest attacks EVER on the MacOS X operating system. At its peak on April 6, Flashback affected an estimated 600,000 systems running OS X worldwide. Efforts by the Mac community, using instructions for manually detecting and removing the malware, have CUT the number of infected systems in HALF in just under FIVE DAYS!

Don’t MESS with the Mac! :-) OR its community….

As usual, claims that users of the heavily-infected Windows-running machines of the world are somehow “more sophisticated” than Mac users are just plain WRONG! :-)

Today, thanks to the release of a new Flashback-removal script tool by F-Secure, even Mac users who are afraid :-) to open a Terminal window can check their systems for Flashback, and QUARANTINE this “bad boy” if it is found!

Definition files for malware by makers of anti-malware software, Apple’s release of a patch for Java, and Apple’s further announcement that it has its OWN Flashback-removal tool in the works are all parts of the defense against the Flashback threat.

Thanks, everyone!
