2008 Amgen Tour of California Bike Race
I received a postcard in the mail today that Stage 3 of the 2008 Amgen Tour of California Bike Race *may* be diverted through Livermore on February 20, 2008. The stages of the race, as currently planned, are mapped on the official race Web site. The race will run from February 17-24, 2008.
If the race is rerouted through Livermore, the affected roads will be Mines Road, Tesla Road, Concannon, and Isabel/Highway 84. Concannon actually runs behind my backyard.
Last year, I took a number of photos (examples 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) of the race, which passed *through* Livermore in 2007, on Concannon. Amazingly, (as the result of setting up the tripod in an optimal location well ahead of time and the crowds [“Chance favors the prepared mind.” – Louis Pasteur]) almost all of the shots came out in focus with proper depth of field, in the 1 1/2 to 2 minutes or so that it took the race to pass my position. It was one of those “be prepared or kick yourself” situations, and I was both prepared and lucky. Some of the photos are in the Outdoor Recreation section of the Portfolio, and many more shots are accessible from the Stock Photo Table (under the Category Outdoor Recreation).
With a little bit of luck, I may be able to get some shots of this year’s race.
