Lily Pond, Golden Gate Park
One of the hidden nuggets of Golden Gate Park is the Lily Pond. The path to the Lily pond has tree ferns on each end (1, 2)! Also, the Lily Pond has small groves of bamboo. You will also see turtles sunning on logs and birds of various types perching in trees, as well as ducks swimming in the pond, itself.
As you can tell from my description, the Lily Pond is *not* a high-energy “happening” kind of place. It is a place where you can relax on a park bench, even on a busy summer day, and let the visitors to Golden Gate Park flow around you, for the most part unaware that you or the Lily Pond are even *there*!
The busiest that I have ever been at the Lily Pond was assisting a European visitor with directions to the de Young museum.
Enjoy the peace and obscurity of the Lily Pond! Don’t tell your friends…
