Elephant Seal Cam

I wrote a photoblog entry about the Northern Elephant Seal back in April of 2008. Today I discovered an elephant seal Web cam at the Año Nuevo State Reserve, a California wildlife reserve that is located 55 miles (90 km) south of San Francisco on Highway 1, between San Francisco and Santa Cruz. The Web cam takes awhile to load (Netcraft says that www.parks.ca.gov is running Windows Server 2003  – I surely HOPE that it is patched! :-) ), but if you have never seen elephant seals in action (or have never seen [or HEARD] elephant seals AT ALL!) you might find the wait worthwhile. The Web cam was not “live” tonight, but pre-recorded, since it is very dark in California right now!

Check out the earlier photoblog entry and this Wikipedia article for background information about northern elephant seals, and then take a look at the Web cam.

Also look at Año Nuevo State Reserve on the California State Parks pages (a great resource)!
