Google Wallet: Visa joins Mastercard on board

Yes, it was a tough-to-decide news day. :-)

John Travolta’s vintage Mercedes was stolen in Santa Monica, the alleged Gumby Bandit turned himself in, Senators are whining about “class warfare” even though, supposedly, whiners don’t win at work (they won everyplace that I worked :-) ), the “Foldit” protein-folding game solves the structure of an AIDS-related enzyme that has baffled scientists for a decade, a $44.4-million-dollar civil settlement was reached in the San Francisco Bay oil-spill case involving the Cosco Busan, and it IS “International Talk Like a Pirate Day,” after all!

I decided to follow the money!

The Google Wallet app will be available “over the air” this week, but only to the subset of Sprint wireless customers who own the Sprint Nexus S 4G smartphone. Google brought in Visa, the world’s largest credit card company. Next year, a group of smartphones will be available with the near-field-communication (NFC) technology that makes it all work. NFC card terminals are still relatively rare, but Visa and Mastercard have tens of millions of locations worldwide.

Stay tuned!
