15 Dems tell Obama to back off opposition to AT&T merger with T-Mobile…

… and President Obama should IGNORE them! :-)

A group of 15 congressional Democrats sent a letter to President Obama urging him to drop the administration’s opposition to the AT&T merger with T-Mobile. The arguments include many used in AT&T marketing for the merger, including the creation of as many as 96,000 jobs.

Mergers don’t create jobs. Mergers ELIMINATE jobs by eliminating redundant positions and making the remaining employees work MUCH harder!

In the case of the proposed merger, there is an even greater threat than the elimination of a lot of jobs. A relatively innovative company, T-Mobile, will be sucked into the morass of the AT&T bureaucracy.

Gigi B. Sohn, the president and co-founder of Public Knowledge, a consumer advocacy group, said:

“It is perfectly clear that AT&T’s history has been to destroy jobs, not to create them. The company has shed 10,000 jobs a year for the past 10 years. There is no reason to believe that the takeover of T-Mobile will do anything to change that dynamic. To the contrary, T-Mobile has created jobs at the same time AT&T has cut them. And by removing T-Mobile’s investment, the amount of money spent on improving the wireless networks will <be> less, not more.”

Sprint-Nextel Corp. agrees that the proposed AT&T merger with t-Mobile will eliminate tens of thousands of jobs across the country. The Justice Department filed a lawsuit on August 31 to block the proposed $39 billion merger, saying that blocking the merger would “help protect jobs in the economy.”
