Malayan tiger from California kills her intended mate in possible Texas “love triangle”

“California Girls” (1965; YouTube) The Beach Boys

A sad and familiar tale in the animal kingdom….

Seri, a 3-year-old female Malayan tiger (Panthera tigris jacksoni, Malay: harimau belang) from the San Diego Zoo has killed her 6-year-old intended mate, Wzui, in the El Paso Zoo in what has been described as a possible love triangle involving three tigers! Seri may have been jealous of Wzui’s involvement with a 15-year-old female tiger (a “cougar?” :-) [slang, definition 2] ), Melor, according to the media. A June news release from the zoo noted:

“The male tiger Wzui likes both females, but the two females don’t like each other.”

On Thursday, Seri reported grabbed Wzui’s neck in her jaws and bit down. The male tiger was dead by the time zookeepers arrived. Seri, born in the San Diego Zoo in April of 2008, was sent to the El Paso Zoo in July 2010 for breedeing.

The Malayan tiger is an endangered subspecies of tiger that lives on the Malay Peninsula.
