Now available on iOS devices: Skype‘s Wi-Fi access app!

Skype said today that its Skype Wi-Fi app, which was formerly known as Skype Access, is a FREE app in the Apple Store. The app allows iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch (running iOS 4.1 and later) to connect to over 1 million Wi-Fi hotspots AROUND THE WORLD using their existing Skype accounts!

The two main advantages to accessing the Wi-Fi hotspots through Skype are: 1) such access allows customers to use their existing Skype account and credits, and 2) such access allows people to use the hotspot for short amounts of time without paying for a full hour or a full day! The access will let people connect to Wi-Fi hotspots in hotels, airports, train stations, bars, restaurants and convention centers using Skype Credit in their accounts.

The company says that the app is great for travelers all over the world.

“Paying on a per-minute basis for WiFi Internet access is great when you’re abroad as you can avoid data roaming charges when you update Facebook, send a tweet, make a Skype call or upload photos.”

“WiFi access prices through Skype start from US$ 0.06/4p/€0,05 (inclusive of VAT) per minute* and you will only be charged for the minutes you are connected. There are no limits on the amount of data you can upload or download.”
