The Bixby Bridge
The Bixby Creek Arch Bridge, often called simply the Bixby Creek Bridge or Bixby Bridge, is a reinforced concrete bridge in Big Sur on Highway 1. According to the Wikipedia article, the bridge is 714 feet long, 24 feet wide, and has a main span of 320 feet. The Bixby Bridge is one of the most photographed bridges in the world – a car commercial would not be “complete” without a shot of the Bixby Bridge. 
Big Sur is a very isolated region, accessible only by Highway 1, sometimes in combination with the lesser-traveled Nacimiento-Fergusson Road. Before the completion of the Bixby Bridge in 1932, the 30-mile journey from Monterey to the Big Sur River Valley could take 3 days.
The design engineer for the Bixby Bridge was Norman Raab. The bridge was seismically retrofitted in 1997 for protection during earthquakes.
