Stolen cars: 8 of the top 10 cities are in California!

Eight of the top 10 cities with the most car thefts in 2010 are in California, and the other two are in Washington state, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB). No, Los Angeles did not make the top 10, or even the top 20. L.A. came in at #23. The NICB calculated the rates of car theft per capita, using statistical areas defined by the U.S. Census, which combined some cities into larger areas. The whole list of 366 cities and statistical areas is found on the NICB site.

The city with the least car thefts was State College, Pennsylvania. (GO Nittany Lions!)

The “most stolen” model of car in the United States in 2010 was the Cadillac Escalade, according to the Highway Loss Data Institute.
