President Obama has arrived in Northern California

President Obama in Air Force One landed at Moffett Field in Mountain View this evening at around 5:30 PM.

President Obama was greeted by the Mayor of San Jose, Chuck Reed and other local officials. The President is in the Bay Area to meet with some of the elite of Silicon Valley, and will be present at at fundraising event at the Atherton home of Facebook COO, Sheryl Sandberg.

“Absolutely everybody who went last year is going to go again this year,” Michael Fraioli, a longtime Democratic fundraiser, said of the president’s big-ticket fundraisers Sunday in Silicon Valley, which include a $35,800-per-plate dinner in Atherton.

(Perhaps President Obama is one of the Facebook “friends in high places” whom I discussed the other day.)

On Monday, President Obama will attend a Town Hall event at LinkedIn, the professional social networking company.

According to the Mercury News:

“An individual contributor can give a maximum of $5,000 to a 2012 presidential candidate. The big money comes via “bundlers” who reach out to their well-heeled friends and business associates, get them to make such contributions, and then bundle them together and hand them to the campaign.

The Bay Area is home to five of President Barack Obama’s 11 California bundlers: salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff; Doug Hickey, managing director Hummer Winblad Venture Partners in San Francisco; Azita Raji of Belvedere, an investor and former JP Morgan investment banker who sits on the Democratic National Committee‘s National Advisory Board; Denise Bauer of Belvedere, wife of Latham & Watkins partner Steven Bauer; and Wade Randlett, co-founder of TechNet, the Silicon Valley’s bipartisan lobbying and political fundraising outfit.

Exact contributions are not disclosed, but all have brought in at least $200,000 so far this cycle; all but Hickey and Randlett have brought in $500,000 or more.”
