Summit Fire Sunday Update

The San Jose Mercury News reported that the Summit Fire was 35% contained on Saturday night, and radio broadcasts describe the fire as being 50% contained on Sunday evening.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency in Santa Clara County after gusty winds drove the fire toward the community of Sveadal late Friday, causing the evacuation of 50 homes.

The fire has consumed more than 3840 acres, and as of Saturday night, at least 20 homes and 18 outbuildings have been reported destroyed.

Four firefighters have received minor injuries. Almost 3100 fire personnel have been assigned to the fire.

So far, the fire has cost $3.2 M to fight. The location of the start of the fire has been determined, but the cause is still under investigation.
