“Forest” fire in Guinda is 15% contained; over 400 firefighters engaged
Firefighters who are fighting the “Forest” fire (named for the street, Forest Avenue, where it began) faced challenges of triple-digit temperatures and shifting winds today. The 520-acre grass and brush fire is burning southwest of the community of Guinda in Yolo County. The fire, which began Saturday at 10 AM, was 15% contained today, largely as the result of a decrease in winds overnight on Saturday night.
The fire burned close to a number of homes on the outskirts of Guinda on Saturday, but the homes were rescued by firefighters from the state agency and local fire districts. Over 400 firefighters, on the ground and in the air, are battling the blaze, which, despite the name, is burning mostly grass and brush in the hillside that runs parallel to Highway 16 in what is known as the Blue Ridge area. Temperatures were expected to reach 100 degrees Fahrenheit today, with low humidity and winds.
