New things to see at Disneyland in 2012!

The site has a slideshow of 10 new things to check out at Disneyland this summer. A five-year “expansive” plan that is now complete. Last Friday, Disney opened up Cars Land to the public – a 12-acre part of California Adventure that is based on the Pixar movie Cars. A neon strip of old-style diners and shops brings back Radiator Springs the town along Route 66 in the movie. A red rock background looks authentic, until you notice the Cadillac-tail-fin shapes. The Radiator Springs Racers ride buzzes along at 45 miles/hour!

I’ll just give some highlights of the slides:

  1. The Matterhorn has a fresh coat of paint and new bobsleds – and MOUNTAIN CLIMBERS!
  2. The heroine and archer, Merida, sports her full head of red hair at a location near “It’s a Small World.”
  3. California Adventure houses the Carthay Circle Theater, a replica of the movie palace where Snow White premiered in 1937.
  4. Buena Vista Street is the new “Main Street” of California Adventure, with a trolley car that takes you back to the 1920s.
  5. Cars Land has no shortage of neon in the reconstruction of Radiator Springs.
  6. Flo’s V-8 Diner, based on the Midpoint Café in Adrian, TX, serves up real food. And yes, there is neon….
  7. Radiator Springs Racers is the star attraction of Cars Land, beginning sedately and then screeching along at 45 miles/hour!
  8. Minnie’s Fly Girls: Minnie Mouse leads flight attendants in harmonies about travel in the 1950s and 1960s!
  9. Mater and Lightning McQueen can suddenly show up while you are having lunch at Flo’s diner.
  10. In Luigi’s Tire Ride, you LEAN to control your tire that is floating on air. Meanwhile, beach balls are bouncing around!

Well, even though I have a friend who can make Disneyland more affordable for us, I still don’t think that we’ll get down to Anaheim this year.

But that shouldn’t stop YOU! :-) Ride Luigi’s Tire Ride for me – it looks like a lot of fun!
