Super Bowl, Pro Bowl to be streamed online to computers for FREE!
According to CNN, and for the first time EVER, “The upcoming wild card games, the Pro Bowl and the Super Bowl — TV’s most-watched annual event — will be streamed for free to computers on NFL.com and NBCSports.com.” Not only that, but the NFL and partner Verizon Wireless announced that the Super Bowl and some post-season games will be streamed through NFL’s apps! The playoffs begin on January, and the Super Bowl will be played in Indianapolis, IN on February 5.
An NBC spokesperson announced that NBC’s live stream of the Super Bowl will run different commercials from those on TV, but viewers will be able to watch the new commercials on demand shortly after they air, through the Web site. Verizon has an exclusive contract to deliver NFL games on phones and tablets.
“Verizon smartphones with a high-speed 4G LTE data plan can stream the games through the NFL Mobile app for free, a spokeswoman for the carrier said. Mobile devices with 3G service, such as the iPhone, iPad or older smartphones, require a $10-per-month Verizon Video subscription, she said.”
During the regular season, the NFL does not stream its games for free. Three years ago, NBC began to stream Sunday Night Football through its sports Web site. NBC has extended its contract with the NFL through 2022.
