Thank you, Congress, especially House Freshman Republicans!

The U.S. economy LOST $1 Trillion today.

In the last two weeks, that makes $2 Trillion lost.

In the words of the late Republican Senator Everett Dirksen from Illinois, “Pretty soon we’ll be talking about real money!”

I just wanted to send a thank-you to Congress today, to extremists of the Left and Right, but especially to the Freshman Republicans of the House of Representatives who turned a relatively routine raising of the debt ceiling into a political circus. There was concern that if the ceiling were not raised, the S&P AAA rating of the U.S. would be lost. :-) There was a “bunch of maroons” in the House of Representatives (YOU know who you are!) who claimed that even a default would not alter the AAA rating or that loss of a AAA rating would not have significant financial consequences.

I guess you were wrong!

What do you care? You still have jobs.

CNN notes:

Wall Street had its worst day since the 2008 financial crisis, as fearful investors reacted to the United States losing its coveted AAA credit rating.

CNN’s Jack Cafferty ALSO had the idea of sending Congress thank-you notes. But he does not know where to send them, because Congress is on vacation, for five weeks. He notes:

“Meanwhile, the rest of the world is in shock. Markets around the world are selling off as trillions of dollars in valuation are being wiped out. Our stock market is headed straight south, and our citizens are watching as their savings and retirement plans are becoming worth less and less by the hour; a lifetime of hard work and sacrifice disappearing before their eyes. And the president parties and Congress is on vacation.”

Well, I don’t want to ramble on as others destroy my prospects for retirement. :-) (When I worked for others, I told them that my goal was not to retire, but to “keel over on the job.” How “embarassing” for them. :-) ) If you look at the whole financial crisis, there are many to blame – has offered us 25.

I just wanted to say, “Thank you, Congress!” for your inability to compromise and for your inability to govern.
