Block EPA greenhouse gases rule say Republicans

More support for those who think that an intelligence test (with a certain minimum acceptable score) should be mandatory for Congressional candidates…. :-)

House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton of Michigan and Senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma, both Republicans, introduced matching bills today that would bar the EPA from mandating emission limits from factories and power plants, while allowing a previous agreement the Obama administration reached with automakers to cut vehicle tailpipe emissions.

Several Democrats in Congress also supported the legislation: Collin Peterson of Minnesota, Nick Rahall of West Virginia, and Dan Boren of Oklahoma.

(Note added March 5, 2011: Long-time readers of this blog know that I try to “ding” both of the major political parties equally – the MISTAKES that each makes are so DIFFERENT! :-) )

Frankly, I EXPECT this kind of scientific ignorance from Republicans (and corporate executives), but it sort of surprises me in Democrats, who generally have DIFFERENT kinds of shortcomings. :-)

EPA began on January 2, 2011 to regulate gases blamed for contributing to climate change. Administrator Lisa Jackson has said that President Barack Obama would veto any attempts to block the rules.

Upton said that the regulations would increase energy prices.

Frankly, energy prices are already rising, for no apparent reason beside GREED, IMHO.

In the Senate, Republican Senators such as Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Lindsay Graham of South Carolina are likely to back the bill.

The president and chief executive officer of the Columbus, OH-based American Electric Power Company expressed strong support for the bill, as did Marty Durbin, executive vice president of the Washington-based American Petroleum Institute, the largest trade group for oil and gas companies.

High-sulfur coal-fired electric power plants in Ohio were implicated historically in acid rain that killed fish in granite-shield lakes, e.g. in the Adirondacks of New York. Burning coal and oil releases carbon dioxide that scientists say are warming the planet and producing climate change. Carbon dioxide absorbs infrared energy (heat) by virtue of its carbon-oxygen bonds and vibration of its linear structure.

Members of Congress, please do not “play politics” with the environments of planet Earth. If you do not seek the knowledge necessary to understand the science, do not arrogantly assume that you are competent to REGULATE it.

(Note added March 4, 2011: Although scientists have laid out the evidence for those who want to look with an open mind, I remembered today that it is not even necessary to have a scientific education to understand. All that is necessary is to cherish the wisdom of being a good steward of the natural world, and to pass along that wisdom. By “coincidence” I saw a poster with the following words on the door of a middle school classroom today:

“Only after the Last Tree has been cut down,

Only after the Last River has been poisoned,

Only after the Last Fish has been caught,

Only then will you find that Money Cannot be eaten.”
